LA TIMES STORY

Mark Verge

It’s great to see Mark & Rental Man outside our Wilshire headquarters.  Seeing Andrea Chang’s article in the Los Angeles Times was almost as fun as watching her do the interview…Mark had a bona fide photoshoot that included standing on the front counter!

This survey report contains statistical and sample vacancy and rental housing market information for Los Angeles rentals, including Los Angeles apartments, Los Angeles condos, Los Angeles guest houses and Los Angeles homes for rent. Specific areas covered in this survey include Beverlywood, Brentwood, Cheviot Hills, Rancho Park, Santa Monica, West LA, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Century City, and Westwood

Since 1996 WestsideRentals.com has successfully connected hundreds of thousands of quality tenants with landlords and roommates. WestsideRentals.com is the definitive location for owners and managers of Los Angeles rentals to locate quality tenants searching for apartments in Los Angeles, condos in Los Angeles, houses for rent in Los Angeles, and guest houses for rent in Los Angeles. Initially started in Santa Monica, due to overwhelming demand from landlords in need of quality tenants to fill their vacancies, WestsideRentals.com has grown to cover most of Southern California. As a service to the rental community we regularly publish rent surveys to assist in making the rental market more transparent and efficient for all of its participants.

For April, 2008, the average listed rent price of all listed rentals in these areas was $2,605.05, representing a 4.4% increase over two months ago. (Hi-Res) This was a general price increase across all rental types, with about 16% of listings in the West Los Angeles - North region being houses, duplexes, or triplexes, as opposed to apartments, condos, or townhouses. This ratio of houses to apartments was relatively unchanged over two months ago, when approximately 16% of listings in these areas were listed as houses, etc. (Chart | Hi-Res)

There was a shift toward more multi-bedroom houses and apartments listed for rent. Two months ago, approximately 51% of listings in the West Los Angeles - North region had two or more bedrooms. For April, 2008, that percentage has increased to approximately 53%. (Chart | Hi-Res)

The largest rent increases occured in Beverlywood, where the total increase was 38.0% and Westwood, where the total increase was 12.6%. Rent prices also increased in West LA (Up 10.9%), Brentwood (Up 9.0%), and Santa Monica (Up 3.4%)

Rent prices decreased in Bel Air by 24.0% and Beverly Hills by 13.0%.

This data is based on the listings at WestsideRentals.com, which are based entirely on the information provided by landlords who choose to list their vacancies on the service. WestsideRentals.com believes that the search for housing is a very personalized process. The best way for an individual to get educated on current market trends is to see the market in action. April 1, 2008 Los Angeles - In what Eli Brood referred to as a “power play,” rental mogul WestsideRentals.com bought out the naming rights lease for Downtown LA’s tallest building, the Library Tower, formerly known as US Bank Building.  This marks the latest expansion of the apartment powerhouse’s prowess, particularly with high profile leases including the sweet corner at Melrose & Fairfax, prime PCH retail in the South Bay, Old Town Pasadena, and its flagship Santa Monica complex at 10th & Wilshire.

WestsideRentals.com Library Tower

“One thing we underestimated, unfortunately, is that we’ll have to expand our operations by 1700% take advantage of the 19 stories of prime office space we had to lease for the next 15 years,” Owner Marc Berge lamented, “But we’ve been looking to make that push & our sign does look sweet on the tallest building in the Southland….maybe I can open a club on the 73rd floor…”

The iconic tower has been the most identifiable piece of the LA skyline since its 1986 construction and was featured in major motion pictures such as Independence Day.  WestsideRentals.com apparently also will be purchasing a helocopter just to say they commute the tallest helopad in the world.

US Bank representatives were unavailable for comment, but an anonymous EVP of Operations was overheard, “This is baloney, I never should have accepted that challenge to a dance off from Marc Berge….he’s unstoppable.”

Rental Man Open Audition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WestsideRentals.com to Host Open Audition for Rental Man Mascot

Santa Monica, CA–(March 13, 2008) - WestsideRentals.com, the leading home finding service in Southern California, announced plans today to hold an open audition for its iconic mascot, Rental Man. The audition will be held at its Santa Monica Corporate Headquarters at 1020 Wilshire Blvd at 2 PM on Friday, March 14.
Rental Man Glamour Shots
Rental Man has become a fixture of viral web videos on YouTube.com and MySpace.com through his comedic and energetic dancing and full costume. The compensation package for becoming Rental Man includes $60,000 as well as access to professional sporting events including the Super Bowl.

Rental Man famously dons a cape and shield at various locations and events throughout the Southland. WestsideRentals.com first hired Rental Man to perform on the street in front of its 7 regional office locations on busy streets such as Wilshire Blvd., PCH, Melrose, and Ventura. The mascot’s reputation rapidly grew by word of mouth as he supported the WGA strike and was featured on TMZ.com and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The 12 year old Santa Monica-based organization has garnered a reputation of producing higher quality tenants for landlords throughout Southern California, but has largely relied on word of mouth to build its loyal customer base. Rental Man has provided a new level of awareness by appearing at numerous public events including Dodgers, Lakers, Kings, and many other sporting events. Last fall, Rental Man brought UCLA and USC students to a frenzy at the rivals’ football showdown. His fanatical support of LA sports has endeared him to many fans.

“Rental Man is fast becoming a household name. Last fall, a kid won a Halloween costume contest by dressing like him and mimicking his unique dance moves,” commented WestsideRentals.com founder, Mark Verge. “Rental Man’s energy keeps the whole company in high spirits.”

WestsideRentals.com has been the predominant marketplace for rentals in LA for the last decade by creating tools for landlords to promote their vacancies for free while high quality renters pay $60 for 60 days to access the best rentals in Southern California. Friday’s open audition will be catered.

Corner Office!

14 Feb 2008 In: Announcements

Next time you’re cruising down Melrose Ave, look out for our new spot!

I spent some time on the second floor of Melrose Corner last week taking in the view of the Hollywood Hills and the 2nd story view from inside the office from our former competitor, Rent Times.  This spot is famous for its GIGANTIC automated sign that now declares to the world that WestsideRentals.com provides 24 hour support by phone & chat online.

Melrose & Fairfax may well be one of the busiest corners in LA’s gridlock, so keep an eye out for us!

We’re not relocating far from our current office on 7213 Melrose, but the new spot is sure to provide great visibility for a service that deserves it.  We’re still getting situated, but feel free to come visit us at either place and we’ll help find you the perfect place to live…

I’ll post a picture of our sweet new sign as soon as we get one available.

And, of course, you can always reach us online at WestsideRentals.com.
